Community Courses

Here at Ernesettle Community school we believe we are an important part of the local community. With that in mind, we have launched a series of courses designed to give back to parents and children that help make our school great.

These courses are delivered by Plymouth Adult and Community Learning.

Animal Magic: Find out how adults and children can play and learn together in a fun way. Enjoy practical activities that support an understanding of children’s development.

Baby Steps: This programme will focus on developing knowledge, understanding and the skills for bringing up a young baby, with a brief insight into antenatal development and care.

Basic Sewing: This course provides the learner an opportunity to tackle those every day sewing tasks with confidence. It will also show the learner how to make your own textiles and stitch work using a variety of creative embroidery stitches. The learner will be able to develop traditional skills to make contemporary and exciting designs.

Big Cook: A series of practical sessions for adults and children. Learners will learn some key cooking skills and take something home for their family

Cook Be Healthy: An intergenerational programme aimed at adults (and children) who want to understand more about how their lifestyle can affect their bodies.

Creative Writing with Illustrations: This course aims to fire up your imagination and get you playing with ideas, words and images. You’ll be encouraged to get starting on your own short stories or poems and will have the chance to dip into the world of illustration at the end of the course. You will be able to use ink, washes, and collage to create fun and colourful imagery to accompany your imaginative stories.

Digital Families: This course introduces parents to hints, tips and ideas on how they can use IT to learn together with their Children.

(ESOL) Family Learning: An informal and friendly programme for parents who speak languages other than English.

Family First Aid: This course gives parents and carer’s confidence to deal with first aid, accidents and childhood illnesses.

Family Literacy, Language and Numeracy: Understand how you support your children in developing their Literacy and Numeracy skills. All sessions offer the chance for you to brush up on your own skills as well as learn how to support your child’s learning. By developing your own skills you will be able to work towards a qualification.

What a Wonderful World: A Science programme focusing on what is covered in the Key Stage one Science curriculum. Learners are able to undertake a wide range of scientific projects.
