Welcome to Year 1…
Welcome back and we hope you had an enjoyable half term break! This term in Year 1 our topic is ‘Hooray…Let’s go on Holiday!’ Within this topic we will be learning all about where we can go on holiday, what people wear, some of the things people do and the holidays that our families and friends have had in the past. We are especially excited about our trip to Wembury beach, which will be free of charge to you.
This term your child will also continue to benefit from ‘Enrichment Time’, which will take place on a Friday morning for an hour. This will be a fantastic opportunity for them to experience life skills such as cooking, first aid, a language, arts and crafts, fitness and creative writing
This term’s English learning will be linked to our trip to Wembury beach and we will be reading ‘Sally and the Limpet’. We will continue to practise handwriting daily, using the cursive style so that children develop speed and confidence with their writing.
Maths will focus on reading and writing numbers to 100 and 2D and 3D shapes. We will also be revisiting our Multiplication and Division learning using Visual Maths to help us tackle challenging problems. Any additional times tables practise at home would be beneficial.
Homework expectations still include reading at least three times per week, completing a weekly spelling sheet and a weekly home learning task please. If you can find the time to complete the home learning task and spelling homework your child will receive an extra 5 golden tickets! Homework books should be handed in on a Thursday so that new spelling sheets and homework can be added and your child's spelling test score can be reported. Homework books will be returned to you on Friday. Next term, don’t forget about our family homework challenge- to create a beach in a jar.
Remember the winner may receive a £20 Smyths voucher! We would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the Parents/Carers who continue to support their child's learning at home, it really helps them to make even better progress.
PE this term will be on a Wednesday for 1RB and 1SJ, so can you please ensure your child has a PE kit in school on these days. Our Sports Coach may take the opportunity to go outside for PE so please could you ensure your child has appropriate footwear (trainers/ plimsolls). Also as the warmer weather approaches, please make sure your child brings to school an appropriate sun hat and a drink and that sun cream has been applied before school.
Just to remind you, all children in Key Stage 1 are still entitled to a free school meal each day. There will be three options available each day including a hot meal, a vegetarian option and a jacket potato with filling.
Thank you for your continued support, it really does make a difference.
