We hope you had a lovely, enjoyable summer break and would like to welcome you to Year 4.
Our Topic learning for Term 1 will focus on ‘Living Together’.
In Geography we will explore the main geographical features of the area surrounding our school and begin to use maps at a variety of scales to locate the position of particular landmarks. Children will also consider how the local environment has been harmed or improved through development.
In History we will gather information from simple sources to look at the main events, dates and characteristics in Plymouth’s past and to help us learn about how people and communities were affected.
In Art, we will be looking at sculpture and other 3D art and how to enhance our school surroundings. In Computing, we will revise e-safety before learning about online digital communities and creating our own Year 4 online blog.
In English, children will develop and apply their knowledge of vocabulary, conjunctions, openers and punctuation through the fiction of The Hundred-Mile-An-Hour Dog and The Iron Man, as well as continuing to develop their skills of using different techniques such as personification, metaphors and similes.
In Maths, children will continue to develop their mental strategies such as their knowledge of times tables as well as written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also be focusing on place value and sequencing.
