Carol Wood

Carol is a retired Assistant Headteacher of Mill Ford Special School and Chair of The Inspire Multi Academy Trust. She has a wealth of experience in school leadership and great teaching and learning. Carol has been the Chair of Governors at Ernesettle Community School for the last ten years and was named the city’s ‘Chair of the Year in 2013’. Professor Andrew Brewerton

Professor Andrew Brewerton

Andrew is the Principal and Chief Executive, of the HE provider, Plymouth College of Art. This role also involves leading at Shanghai University and the Plymouth School of Creative Arts. In these positions and his previous roles at the Art Council England, Dartington College of Arts and the University of Wolverhampton Andrew has developed a broad knowledge of education and executive management.

Professor Andy Phippen

Professor Andy Phippen

Andy is the Professor of Social Responsibility in IT at the Plymouth Graduate School of Management & Plymouth Business School (Faculty of Business: Plymouth University). As the Programme Manager for Business Enterprise and a professional member of FBCS (Fellow of the British Computer Society), CITP, Ceng and the BCS Academic Accreditations Committee, Andy brings a wealth of experience to the trust board. He also is a Research Partner with the UK Safer Internet Centre and a Member of Parliamentary IT Committee.

Helen Mathieson

Helen Mathieson

Helen, Director of HM Consultancy, is a highly successful and experienced leadership and change management consultant having worked in education for over 20 years. Her headship experience spans across schools in significantly different and challenging circumstances, including transformation and academisation in both secondary and primary sectors. She has worked for independent sponsors in order to bring about both transformation and academisation, providing project leadership and management to deliver curriculum, staffing, self- evaluation and administration planning and facilitation at all levels, including Free Schools.

Tim Roper

Tim Roper

Tim Roper LLB (Hons), is a solicitor and a founding Director of Roper James Solicitors based in St Andrew Street, Plymouth. He has been involved with some high profile Group litigation throughout his career. Prior to a career in the law, Tim was a Detective in the Special Branch of the Bermuda Police Force.

Nick Ward

Nick Ward

Nick, Vice Principal at Pool Academy, has a wealth of experience after starting his career as a teacher of Science at Launceston College in 1995. Nick was part of the Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ leadership team at Treviglas Community College and two academies in Plymouth. Nick has significant senior leadership experience across a number of schools, including all-through provisions, and is committed to the very best outcomes for every individual.

Paul Chapman

Paul Chapman

Paul, owner and Director of Whitesails Associates, is an experienced Management Accountant and is an Associate Member of CIMA. Paul is also a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management and has been the Vice Chair of Governors at Ernesettle Community School for the last eight years.

Gavin Jones

Gavin Jones

Gavin, Chief Executive Officer of Gavin Jones Consultancy, has a strong senior background in both operations and training within the hospitality sector. He worked for some of the country’s leading brands, as well as smaller SME organisations. Having a proven track record to improve businesses through accelerated growth, increasing corporate standardisation, process flows and brand enhancement.

Aaron Meredith

Aaron Meredith

Aaron, Headteacher of Ernesettle Community School and CEO of The Inspire Multi Academy Trust (South West), was appointed when Ernesettle Community School was deemed to be requiring special measures in May 2010. Within 18 months, the school was graded as ‘Good with Outstanding features’ by Ofsted. In April 2013, Aaron was seconded to part time for two years to open Devon’s first primary free school, Marine Academy Primary; the academy became the south west’s first ‘Outstanding’ free school in June 2015. In February 2018, Aaron was designated as a National Leader in Education (NLE).

Claire Jones

Claire Jones

Having worked in Early Education for over twenty years, Claire is currently the Deputy Headteacher at Marine Academy Primary, the South West’s first ‘Outstanding’ free school. Claire has an exceptional passion, motivation and commitment, particularly in the Early Years for improving practice, raising aspirations and the life chances of children. In 2017, she was accredited as a Specialist Leader in Education (SLE) for Early Years and Phonics, having supported schools across Plymouth and Devon. In 2017, Claire successfully completed the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL).

Sophia Pettit

Sophia Pettit

Sophia, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives specialising in Wills and Trusts. Sophia’s knowledge in this area of law and her experience in administering and managing Trusts will aid the board in their role. Sophia is also a parent at Ernesettle Community School, wishing to provide a good role model for her daughters, take an active interest in their school and help keep Ernesettle Community School the great success that it is.

Sandi Wood

Sandi Wood

Sandi, a parent governor, represents and is a valued member of the local community. Sandi brings media and ICT expertise to the trust and has been heavily involved in community and in-school events, she has been a governor at Ernesettle Community School since 2016.

Darren Butcher

Darren Butcher

Darren, a highly experienced insurance specialist and landlord, is skilled in negotiation, business planning/development and land issues. A former pupil at Estover Community College and local resident in the Tor Bridge Primary area, Darren is an excellent addition to the board providing local context and a wealth of insurance and land expertise.

Company Secretary

Anita Martin – Anita, Director of Corporate Services at Inspiring Schools Partnership Multi Academy Trust, is an experienced academy accountant. Anita has been the Company Secretary for The Inspire Multi Academy Trust (South West) since 2016.

Human Resources Manager

Sonia Oates – Sonia, the trust’s HR Manager, is former HR advisor to the local City Council and has been involved with multiple academy conversions and the associated TUPE processes. Sonia has been working across multi academy trusts since 2010.
